and Design (A&D) project, G 4–5
Grades 4,5 have the Design
project ‘My favorite animal in its
habitat’ in the first semester (20 hours, two hours per week) with
following LOs.
LO1 – to classify types of
animals, their habitats and needs for the living. Assessment (as a part of learning) is oral answers on open
questions that costs 10% from 100% score.
LO2 – to analyze the influences
of the environment onto the world and animals, to explain the own
responsibility in the environmental protection. Assessmant (formative) is group work presentation the environmental
problem and own solution that costs 30% from 100% score.
LO3 – to create appropriate
habitat for the own beloved animal. Assessment
(summative) – presentation the own
project with defense that costs 60% from 100% score.
The project helps to do research of chosen animal and its habitat. The main goal of the project is to protect the environment and animal life. At the end of the project students defend the work demonstrating the knowledge about environment, animal habitats, and giving positions about own responsibility to save the chosen animal and the planet. Students usually have assessment as a part of the learning when they give the answers about animals, and formative assessment when they make presentation in group work about the problems of the environment and offer probable solutions. However, the main grade they have for the project and its defending.
IAC project “My family
heraldry shield” in grade 5 included Visual Art, Music, Performance,
Design, ESL fields. The learning outcome was to represent the own family emblem
on the family shield. Students had to do research about their ancestors and
family members, combine the information about the family on the shield using
heraldry colors and symbols. Their task was to defend the project on clear
English in front of the public explaining the links between images that were
used on the shield and most important attributes of the family. The
presentation was organized with shields and swords dancing on the stage. Among
LOs to speak English, to organize information about family, to show rhythm and
music balance, the main goal of IAC project for students was to feel
him/herself a representor of the family and ancestors that gave the life and
opportunity to study. Like a knight in Medieval Era went to a tournament to
defend his family, we are also representing our families without family shields
in the society with our behavior and our words.
