A review of the article
'Chat GPT: Educational Artificial Intelligence'
As many other nowadays educators, I am interested in
the new sphere in learning process that may be connected with Chat GPT as a
part of Artificial Intelligence. On this issue, almost all the articles are
practically new, and the article 'Chat GPT: Educational Artificial
Intelligence' by M. Ratnam, B. Sharma and A. Tomer published in International
Journal of Advanced Trends in Computer Science and Engineering in April 2023
attracted my attention due to its relevance to the interests of education and
Chat GPT using.
In summary, the authors emphasize the importance of developing new educational and essessment methods that focus on expanding dtudents' creativity and critical thinking. Besides of that Artificial Intelligence can help in personalized learning by providing students with adaptive educational materials and approaches. Using machine learning algorithms, AI can analyze a learner data, preferences, strengths, and wearnesses to suggesr optimal learning material, assignments and teaching methods. This allows each student to develop according to their needs and pace of learning.
The article
discusses strengths of using AI in education:
1. Personalized
learning: AI makes it possible to offer personalized and adaptive learning
materials and approaches based on the needs and preferences of each student.
2. Automate
administrative tasks: Using AI could help automate routine administrative tasks
such as grading students' progress.
3. Identification
of training needs: AI analyzes learner data and suggests optimal teaching
methods and materials that helps to improve the effectiveness of the educational
process.
4. Developing
Creativity and Critical Thinking: The article highlights the importance of developing
new assessment methods that will help identify and develop students' creativity
when using AI in education.
However, the article does not mention some potential
weaknesses of using AI in education. Some of possible weaknesses may include:
lack of human interaction, data privacy issues, limitation of technology
because a lot of schools and even countries do not have access for using AI in
IT, needs for teacher training that is actual for Uzbekistan.
Overall, the article is written competently, clearly structured,
the material is presented in a logically understandable and accessible
language.
In parallel with this article X. Zhai an his article 'ChatGPT User Experience: Implications for Education' also suggests to change the approach to assessment practices by placing more emphasis on critical thinking and creativity. (Zhai, 2022) The same issue is raised in 'Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning' where the authors discuss using Ai in education priorities such as adaptability learning to individual student needs, supporting teachers and personalizing learning materials. The article also in parallel with the first one notes to risks associated with AI using, such as data privacy and errors in decision making. All sources are offered to develop policies that will help use AI in education in safe and ethical manner. (Miguel and Cardona, 2023)
So, the issue regarding AI using in the field of education, that I am interested in, has been shown as great advantages in the process of an individual approach to assessment and educational material selection for each student personally, that is practically impossible for a teacher to do without the help of AI. However, the studies showed the similarities in issues of possible adverse effect on the educational process. The possible disadvantages may relate to a lack of personal communication or digital security. Negative impact on the learning process has to be taken into account and avoided while taking advantages of AI for students' progress.
